Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey – Review

reviewToo Hard to Forget

Synopsis

This time, she’s calling the shots.

Peggy Clarkson is returning to her alma mater with one goal in mind: confront Elliott Brooks, the man who ruined her for all others, and remind him of what he’s been missing. Even after three years, seeing him again is like a punch in the gut, but Peggy’s determined to stick to her plan. Maybe then, once she has the upper hand, she’ll finally be able to move on.

In the years since Peggy left Cincinnati, Elliott has kept his focus on football. No distractions and no complications. But when Peggy walks back onto his practice field and into his life, he knows she could unravel everything in his carefully controlled world. Because the girl who was hard to forget is now a woman impossible to resist.

My Thoughts

This is the third book in the Meet The Clarkson’s series and their ongoing road trip across the country. Peggy wants to make a stop at her alma mater and finally get over her college fling.

This book was surprising in its intensity in this book. Coach Brooks is a very intense guy and full of Catholic guilt about his life. Not gonna lie the intense Catholic guilt and the strong religious overtones in the book made me struggle a little more than I normally would with a Tessa Bailey book, but they weren’t over the top and felt genuine for the character.
Peggy and Elliot have this insanely strong pull towards each other and it made for some super hot, super intense scenes. And the forbidden relationship aspect just added to the drama and intensity of this book.

I really liked Peggy and her caring heart. At the beginning I wasn’t sure of Elliot because of how he treated Peggy, but as he opened up and let go of some of his guilt I really started to enjoy him. This book was definitely a ride I was not prepared for but I am very happy I did. It seems that each book in this series is better than the last and I cannot wait to see how it ends.

I have really enjoyed seeing each of the Clarkson siblings journey in finding themselves and their missing piece so far, but I am dying to get Belmont’s story. I wholeheartedly recommend this series and everything Tessa Bailey writes.

About the Author

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne – Review

reviewWalk of Shame

Synopsis

Pampered heiress Georgianna Watkins has a party-girl image to maintain, but all the shopping and clubbing is starting to feel a little bit hollow—and a whole lot lonely. Though Georgie would never admit it, the highlights of her week are the mornings when she comes home at the same time as her uptight, workaholic neighbor is leaving to hit the gym and put in a long day at the office. Teasing him is the most fun Georgie’s had in years—and the fuel for all her naughtiest daydreams.

Celebrity divorce attorney Andrew Mulroney doesn’t have much time for women, especially spoiled tabloid princesses who spend more time on Page Six than at an actual
job. Although Georgie’s drop-dead gorgeous, she’s also everything Andrew resents: the type of girl who inherited her penthouse instead of earning it.
But after Andrew caps one of their predawn sparring sessions with a surprise kiss—a kiss that’s caught on camera—all of Manhattan is gossiping about whether they’re a real couple. And nobody’s more surprised than Andrew to find that the answer just might be yes.

4.5-Stars

My Thoughts

I loved this book hard. This book hooks you from page 1 and doesn’t let go. it would be difficult to not like our heroine, but that is exactly what Andrew Maloney, Esquire does. She has this whole Holly Golightly feel about her, you know, where everyone in the from gravitates to her and she has never met a stranger, so for someone to not like her is completely foreign.
They meet in passing every morning as she is coming in for the night and he is leaving for the gym and engage verbal sparring matches that are so fun and quick-witted that you will find yourself chuckling and wishing you could come up with stuff this good off the top of your head.
Our divorce lawyer, Andrew, doesn’t believe in Happily Ever Afters and our socialite party girl only believes in Happily Even Afters. This book and their story is so much fun to read. It was a wonderful ode to Happily Ever Afters and was one of my favorite reads from Lauren Layne so far. I highly recommend this book.

4.5-Stars

I always love a little bit of crazy and this one was perfect. I loved Tanner and Belle so much. They fought like crazy and loved just as hard.

My Thoughts

This book was so much fun to read. It was also extremely hot, sweet, passionate, frustrating, and beautiful. This book is so much more that a sports romance, while Tanner is a footballer most of the story actually takes place during his suspension. These two may not have started off on the right foot but when they are thrown together things really take

Seriously there is so much going on in this book I dare you to not get drawn in to the point you forget about everything but Tanner and Belle.

Blush For Me by Kristen Proby – Review

reviewBlush For Me

Synopsis

As the take-charge wine bar manager of Seduction, Portland’s hottest new restaurant, Katrina Meyers is the definition of no-nonsense, and she isn’t afraid of anything. Well, almost anything: she hates to fly. When she’s forced to travel on a death trap with wings, the turbulence from hell has her reaching for any safe haven—including the incredibly handsome guy sitting next to her.

Ryan “Mac” MacKenzie hasn’t been able to get his sexy seatmate out of his head. The way she clung to him stirred something inside him he didn’t think existed: tenderness. As the owner of a successful wine touring company, Mac thinks he’s got a handle on what life can throw at him and he’s not prepared for any surprises, especially in the feelings department. And when he brings a tour into Seduction, he sees the petite spitfire he just can’t forget.

Mac is determined to discover what else they have in common besides fine wine and the inability to keep their hands off each other. But what will it take for two stubborn people to realize that what they have is so much more than a hot chemistry between the sheets and to admit to falling in love…?

goodreads

I knew I was going to love Kat before I started this book, but I was blown away. Her story was amazing and Mac was so perfect for her. I loved everything about this book, and as I say every time I finish a book in this series, this is my new Proby favorite.

My Thoughts

Kat is a smart, strong, independent woman and I pretty much-loved everything about her. And Mac, oh Mac. I knew from the first moment they met on the plane he was going to be special, and special he was. Mac was such a nice guy that I fell hard for him. I mean who doesn’t want a guy to read to them. I fell head over heels for this book and I know this is going to be a frequent re-read for me.

I highly recommend this book. I can’t say enough good things about it and the world that Kristen Proby has created. These characters feel like you have known them forever and in a way always feel like home. Pick up a copy of this one, you will not be disappointed.

Havoc by Jamie Shaw – Review

reviewHavoc

Synopsis

When Hailey Harper left her family farm to enroll in veterinary school, she had a plan: keep her head down, ace her classes, and most importantly… don’t upset the uncle paying her tuition. Translation? Don’t piss off his dramatic, self-absorbed daughter, Danica, even if she’s a nightmare to live with.

Falling in love with her cousin’s rock star ex-boyfriend was definitely not part of the plan.

As the drummer of a now-famous rock band, Mike Madden could have any girl he wants. He’s sweet, funny, romantic, talented–and the only guy that’s ever made Hailey’s heart do cartwheels in her chest. The more she gets to know him, the harder she falls, but Hailey knows they can never be more than friends… because Danica wants him back, and she’ll fight dirty to win.

Mike is falling for Hailey too, but Danica’s threats and his rock star life-music video shoots, international tours, obsessed fans-could tear them apart before they’ve even begun. Hailey isn’t sure she’s the one for him, but Mike’s waited years for a girl like her… and he’ll do anything to prove it.

goodreads

I fell a little bit more for Mike in each of the books in this series, but this book was just wow. I am so happy that we got Mike’s story and I loved the way it played out.

My Thoughts

Mike is the most adorable character. He is laid back, makes everyone feel comfortable and at home and loves video games. He is just an incredible guy and I am happy that he finally found the incredible girl to complement him.

There is quite a bit of drama in this one, because the incredible girl he falls for happens to be his crazy ex’s cousin, but Hailey was so smart, sweet, kind, and amazing that all of the drama and angst didn’t feel over done. Now Danica (the ex) I pretty much wanted to throw my Kindle every time she appeared. You know those characters you would love to reach in and slap around because they are so selfish, vapid and horrible, yeah that is Danica.

Hailey and Mike hit it off playing video games when she kicks his ass on a new video game on the guy’s tour bus. He keeps playing and chatting online with her even though he is dating her cousin, and Hailey starts to fall for him so she starts avoiding playing with him. This story is really fun to read, and even though it may sound like a cheating book I can assure you that it is not. MIke is too good of a guy for anything like that.

I highly recommend picking this one up. MIke Madden is the kind of all around nice guy that you want to date in real life. I loved his and Hailey’s story so much I can’t wait to read all of the books again to spend a little more time with the band.

Riveted by Jay Crownover – Review

reviewRiveted

Synopsis

Everyone else in Dixie Carmichael’s life has made falling in love look easy, and now she is ready for her own chance at some of that happily ever after. Which means she’s done pining for the moody, silent former soldier who works with her at the bar that’s become her home away from home. Nope. No more chasing the hot as heck thundercloud of a man and no more waiting for Mr. Right to find her; she’s going hunting for him…even if she knows her heart is stuck on its stupid infatuation with Dash Churchill.

Denver has always been just a pit stop for Church on his way back to rural Mississippi. It was supposed to be simple, uneventful, but nothing could have prepared him for the bubbly, bouncy redhead with doe eyes and endless curves. Now he knows it’s time to get out of Denver, fast. For a man used to living in the shadows, the idea of spending his days in the sun is nothing short of terrifying.

When Dixie and Church find themselves caught up in a homecoming overshadowed with lies and danger, Dixie realizes that while falling in love is easy, loving takes a whole lot more work…especially when Mr. Right thinks he’s all wrong for you.

goodreads

4.5-Stars

Y’all need Church. We have seen Church around since Rome’s book, but he is the strong silent type so you don’t get to know much about him. I can tell you after reading this book that you will want to get to know this man. And Dixie… Dixie is the perpetually happy waitress that has had her eye on Church since he came around. These two had such a special journey I didn’t want it to end.

My Thoughts

I will admit that this book started slow for me, but once they got to their destination I was hooked and could not put this story down. Church has to leave Denver to go back home and he asks Dixie to join him. Along the way truths are revealed and the two get close. I really liked Church and his over protectiveness, but I loved Church when he had something to say it was always truthful and meant something. We also get to peel back a few layers and see the real Dixie. I loved that she was the eternal optimist and her reasons for being that way were so beautiful. I loved that her nice persona was not just for the bar patron’s benefit and that it carried over to everyone. These two strong characters are what made this book special.

I loved their journey, both the actual road trip and their journey to finding love and redemption. There were so many things about this book that I loved. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say one of my favorite things about Jay Crownover’s writing is that she makes all of the characters so real and so developed you end up falling a little bit for everyone in the story. This is especially true with Church’s family and Elma. I could have read an entire book full of these small town characters and I hope sometime in the future I will be able to.

I highly recommend this book and all of Jay Crownover’s books. She is a master of writing the broken men that kick ass and take names. The broken men that find their forever and will do anything to protect that little bit of peace. She also writes strong, smart, sassy females that kick ass in their own way, but will move heaven and earth to keep the peace for their bad ass dudes with big ass hearts.

Love Story by Lauren Layne – Review

reviewLove Story

Synopsis

Over the course of one wild road trip, feuding childhood sweethearts get a second chance at love in this charming rom-com—a standalone novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Blurred Lines and Good Girl.

When Lucy Hawkins receives a job offer in San Francisco, she can’t wait to spread her wings and leave her small Virginia hometown behind. Her close-knit family supports her as best they can, by handing over the keys to a station wagon that’s seen better days. The catch? The cross-country trip comes with a traveling companion: her older brother’s best friend, aka the guy who took Lucy’s virginity hours before breaking her heart.

After spending the past four years and every last dime caring for his sick father, Reece Sullivan will do just about anything to break free of the painful memories—even if it means a two-week road trip with the one girl who’s ever made it past his carefully guarded exterior. But after long days of bickering in the car turn into steamy nights in secluded motel rooms, Reece learns that, when it comes to Lucy, their story is far from over. And this time, they just might have a shot at a happy ending.

Although listed as a title in the Love Unexpectedly Series, all books in the series stand alone.

My Thoughts

This was a great quick, fun, swoony read. A couple that are broken up forced on a cross-country road trip by meddling family sounds like it would be full of clichés, but not Lauren Layne. I loved these two. Their banter, fighting over the radio station and even though Reece was a bit of a jerk at times you can’t help but fall hard for him.

Even though these two fight and bicker through most of the first half of the book you can’t help but see how perfect they are for each other and you want to root for them. As you are reading you get to follow their friendship, previous relationship and their new budding relationship. I loved seeing all of the pieces come together the way that this story was told. I highly recommend picking this one up, it brought a huge smile to my face the entire time I was reading.
