Dirty Love by Meghan March – Review

Dirty Love

Greer Karas has been mine since the first day I saw her.

I walked away because she deserved better than I could offer, but I always planned to come back and stake my claim when the time was right.

But true to form, Greer wasn’t willing to wait. She threw down a challenge, and I’m meeting her head-on.

I’m not walking away this time because sometimes you have to fight dirty for love.

After the ending of Dirty Girl, I couldn’t wait to start Dirty Love. The first book ended with a major cliffhanger, and I needed to know Greer and Cav’s reaction to the major revelation at the end of the first book. I was so mad at Creighton through most of these two books, because he was a controlling, overbearing, jerk of a brother and just did whatever he thought was best for Greer without asking. I was happy she stood up for herself and was able to work through things on her own. I was also happy to see that Creighton was able to let Greer fight her own battles and work through everything on her own. It definitely made me love Creighton once again.

I loved the whole process that Greer went though to figure out if Cav was “it” for her, but there were so many issues and secrets and factors thrown at these two it was a high angst read. I really enjoyed how Meghan March was able to have them rationally talk through the issues after one or two super alpha male moves. Overall the story was a great wrap to Cav and Greer’s story and I look forward to more of this series and glimpses of these characters in the future.

Dirty by Kylie Scott – Review

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to burn down the church or sit and
cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she’d marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong-maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?

4 Stars

This book was so fun, entertaining and a joy to read. I was laughing out loud from page one and hated to put it down. I would have read cover to cover in one sitting if I could have. Along with the laughs, Kylie Scott brought tons of heart, large quantities of steam, and all of the swoons. One of my favorites from her so far.

My Thoughts

Let me start by saying this book had the most hysterical and cute meet-cute of any book I can recall. It set the tone of the book and made for a really fun story. With light-hearted antics, hilarious banter, crazy situations, panty melting sexy moments  and heart-warming moments, you can’t help but fall hard for this sexy hero and the woman that captures his heart. This book was so much fun to read. I highly recommend this book and am not so patiently waiting for the next book in the series.

Notable Quotes

Primitive man might have worshipped the sun, but I’m pretty sure the sun worshipped Vaughan.

Nipples are little beasts, always reacting to everything, especially when you’d rather they be discreet.

“I know this isn’t a permanent thing for either of us.” Something inside of me screamed denial. “It’s more of a crossing of paths on the great journey of life.”

“I just want you to know, I will not be falling slave to your devil dick and demon tongue. No matter how good they are.”

“When women read romance books, one of two things generally happen.” Mal ran a hand through his lovely locks. “They either want to discuss the book in great depth. And probably, life and your relationship. Now sometimes that’s okay. You reach a higher level of understanding with each other and shit. But sometimes it sucks, pure and simple. You wind up getting bitched at for days because of something the dude in the book did that makes you look bad. But if it’s an awesome book, however, a hot one? Well then … kinky fuckery like you wouldn’t believe, man. The ideas Pumpkin has gotten out of some of those books. Gold. I could never have talked her into trying half of that stuff.”

“Trust me, never mock a romance book,” said Mal with all the zest of a manic street preacher. “You have no idea the amount of good they can do for you between the sheets and on the streets. If you love your girl? Buy her books.”

The Matchmaker’s Playbook by Rachel Van Dyken – Review

The Matchmaker’s Playbook

Wingman rule number one: don’t fall for a client.

After a career-ending accident, former NFL recruit Ian Hunter is back on campus—and he’s ready to get his new game on. As one of the masterminds behind Wingmen, Inc., a successful and secretive word-of-mouth dating service, he’s putting his extensive skills with women to work for the lovelorn. But when Blake Olson requests the services of Wingmen, Inc., Ian may have landed his most hopeless client yet.

From her frumpy athletic gear to her unfortunate choice of footwear, Blake is going to need a miracle if she wants to land her crush. At least with a professional matchmaker by her side she has a fighting chance. Ian knows that his advice and a makeover can turn Blake into another successful match. But as Blake begins the transformation from hot mess to smokin’ hot, Ian realizes he’s in danger of breaking his cardinal rule…

So, to be honest I was a little put off at the beginning of this book. Ian comes off as an ass and a giant douhe! But… Once you saw him with Gabby and Lex he was a different person and you will fall in love with him!  He was hilarious! Still somewhat a pig and at times a major douche… but I loved him.

And Blake, don’t get me started on Blake. She was such a great character. A little naive at times and an unfortunate style victim but she was so amazing. I loved her character from the very first time she told Ian off and ignored his advances.

Once they start to get to know each other you can see the chemistry and it was so fun to see Ian struggling with a girl for the first time. He was still a pig and an ass quite often, but Blake could handle him and their banter and antics made for some of the best moments in the book.

I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun, funny, sassy and surprisingly endearing romance with a non traditional beginning.

Cuff Me by Lauren Layne – Review

Cuff Me

Vincent Moretti is one of the NYPD’s top homicide detectives-and one of the most eligible bachelors in town. His family, however, thinks he should date his longtime partner, Jill-a sassy, sexy, smart-mouthed blonde who drives him absolutely crazy.

Behind the quiet authority, tough-guy demeanor, and dark aviator glasses lies a man with a big soul-and a hard body that can soften any girl’s heart. After years as his coworker, Jill Henley has given up hope that anything could happen between her and Vin. Besides, loving him would break all the rules. But seeing Jill with someone else triggers feelings in Vincent he never knew he had. Now he’ll have to stop playing good cop/bad cop-and find a way to convince her to be his partner for life. . .

4 Stars

I have been looking forward to Vincent Moretti’s story since I heard about this series. You could almost feel the tension between him and Jill coming off of the pages in the other books, and this did not disappoint.

My Thoughts

I knew that Vincent’s path to happiness wasn’t going to be easy and that it involved Jill. He is such a taciturn guy that you could tell that when he fell he was gonna fall hard, but seeing him struggle with how he handled the feeling was the best part of this book.

The chemistry and banter between Jill and Vin from the other books made me fall pretty hard for them before I even started this book and I’ll admit I was a huge shipper for them and rooting for their HEA together pretty hard. I was a little thrown when the book started with Jill getting engaged to another guy, but it was the catalyst that Vin needed to make him see what was right in front of his face.

This story had all of the feels. It was swoony, funny, charming, touching, sweet, sexy, and heartwarming. Vincent Moretti is one of those characters that capture your heart right away and that is what makes this books so good. I highly recommend this book if you like your cops strong and silent, with a sweet, swoony side and fierce loyalty to those he cares about. Pick up this series you will not be disappointed.

Notable Quotes

Vincent Moretti was more than her partner.
So much more.
What he was to her, she didn’t know how to name. Or wasn’t ready to.

Jill Henley was Vincent’s opposite in every way.
Jill was chipper, charming, and smiley.
Vincent was…none of those things.

Vincent forced himself to look at her fiancé again. He looked like Tom Fucking Brady. Even the first name was the same.

“Sweetie, if you’d spent your entire life silently waiting – desperately wanting – someone to love you, and never having that gift even offered – would you know how to give it?”

He’d always thought they’d shared a secret understanding that the fact that what was between them couldn’t be named was precisely what made it theirs. Now, he was realizing that this had been one-sided. That all this time, he’d merely been her colleague while she’d been his… everything.

He believed in love. He did.

He just didn’t believe in it for him.

Not because he had any gory emotional wounds, not because he had some brokenhearted past.

He was just … he didn’t feel like other people did. He wasn’t some sort of sociopathic weirdo, he just had never really absorbed things to his very soul the way his sister, and to a lesser extent his brothers, had.

Quiet. Reserved. Broody.
It’s not that he didn’t feel. Of course he did. He just didn’t feel out loud.

Their relationship had always been both horribly complicated and wonderfully simple. Those two elements canceled each other out so that when it came right down to it, Jill and Vincent were beyond definition.

He didn’t know what he was going to say, only knew that he had to say something, had to convince her that she belonged here. In New York. With him. That he couldn’t imagine what his days would look like without her. That he didn’t know how to be without her.

Take Me Home Tonight by Erika Kelly – Review

Take Me Home Tonight

A rocker gets a taste of unexpected passion in the latest red-hot Rock Star Romance from the award-winning author of I Want You to Want Me.

Calix Bourbon might seem like a free spirit, but that’s all a front. In reality he’s just trying to keep his fractured family together while working as a session musician. When Blue Fire hires him to replace their keyboardist, Calix is determined to make the most of the opportunity—but he can’t help being distracted by the band’s sexy personal chef.

Mimi’s temporary gig is great, but she has her heart set on auditioning for a televised cooking show. There’s just one problem: she only has a week to acquire the skills necessary to survive the competition. Luckily, the band’s new keyboard player can teach her exactly what she needs, in the kitchen and in the bedroom…

4 Stars

This book was intense with a great story line, tons of emotion, and incredible passion. The characters were so real and raw and incredible I was hooked right away. If you think this is going to be one of the quick and dirty rocker romances, think again. This was such a beautiful story of living your life to the fullest and loving what you do that I could not put it down.

My Thoughts

This book focuses on the newest member of the band, Calix Bourbon, who is just filling in while they record the album and Mimi, Violet’s bestie from the last book. These two have been keeping their distance, but crushing on the other from afar, until they come crashing together.

I really enjoyed their push and pull and getting to be a part of the connection these two had. Each had their own issues and demons and it was quite the ride to see them try to overcome it all to be together. I could not get used to Calix’s hot and cold though and it really bothered me through out the book. I understood the reasoning for it all, but it did not make it any easier for the reader to go through with Mimi. I really loved Mimi through out the entire book. She was so full of life and fun and had a huge heart. And Calix was so hot in a broody, tortured  bad boy way, although we quickly find that he is not a bad boy at all and that makes him even more interesting.

This book was high on the angst and a true slow build of a relationship. This is generally not my thing, but with this book, it felt like that was the only way it could be. The feelings, emotions, and even the angst were so real and raw and beautiful that it was hard to not fall head over heels for this group. I loved getting to see the previous couples growing in their relationships and flourishing.

I highly recommend this book if you like a hard fought romance, with a dash of sexy musician, a dollop of cooking, a pinch of family, and a touch of steam. I could not put it down, but the ups and downs and whiplash feelings are the only things that kept this from the top of my 2016 list.

Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting – Review

Forever Pucked

Being engaged to Alex Waters, team captain and the highest paid NHL player in the league, is awesome. How could it not be?

In addition to being an amazing hockey player, he’s an incurable romantic with an XL heart, and an XXL hockey stick in his pants. And he knows how to use it. Incredibly, orgasmically well. Alex is the whole package and more. Literally. Like his package is insane. Total world record holder material.

So it makes complete sense that Violet Hall can’t wait to nail him down to the matrimonial mattress and become Mrs. Violet Waters.

It’s so romantic.

Violet is totally stoked to set a date.

Eventually. At some point. Likely before the next millennium. Or when Violet stops getting hives every time someone brings up the wedding, and their mothers stop colluding on stadium sized venues. Whichever comes first.

3.5 Stars 4 Stars

I really enjoyed this quick, fun return to Violet and Alex. It was nice to see the whole crew and to finally find out why Violet hates weddings. The Beaver and the Super MC are back and they’re getting married!

My Thoughts

This is the continuation of Alex and Violet’s crazy love story. This book is full of funny, silly, and sexy times…all things that we come to expect from these characters. But it also shows some touching and tender moments where we get to see more sides of both Alex and Violet that we haven’t seen before. I really enjoyed these more serious grown up moments right alongside the silliness.

Overall this was a really fun story that had many touching moments and a whole lot of laughs. I recommend this to anyone that enjoys a dash of silly, a large serving of belly laughs and a pinch of drama.

Drop Dead Sexy by Katie Ashley – Review

Drop Dead Sexy

For Olivia Sullivan, love is more a four letter curse word than a sentiment. Growing up as the daughter of a small town mortician, guys didn’t warm to the fact there were dead people in her house. At thirty, taking over the family business and becoming the town Coroner helped to cement her undateable status. Of course her past sex history didn’t help matters either.

Attempt number one with her first love ended barely before it got started with a horrific latex allergy hospitalization. Attempt number two had him coming and then going with an undiagnosed heart condition. For the past three years, Olivia has closed up shop for fear of what might happen next in the bedroom.

After being forced to go single to her mother’s lingerie shower, Olivia stumbles into an out of town bar with one intention: find an able bodied stud to go home with to end her losing sex streak. Enter Holden Caulfield Mains aka Catcher, who earned his nickname not just from the book he was named for, but for the fact he was sure to catch the attention any woman who came within a five mile radius. Waking up after a night of the most mind blowing sex she could have ever imagined, a horrified Olivia runs away thinking she’s left Catcher behind.

When Olivia’s small town is wracked by its first murder, she never could have imagined her one night stand would reappear in the form of the GBI’s lead investigator. To her mortification, Catcher isn’t ready to let go of their sizzling chemistry, and he doesn’t understand the meaning of no. As things start to heat up between them, the body count starts to rise, and they’re led on a wild goose chase from backwoods mountain Nudist Colonies to altercations with the Dixie Mafia. Can Olivia and Catcher survive to solve the murder while also not succumbing to their explosive passion?

4 StarsThis book was laugh out loud, read it in one sitting, want to start over again good. This book was such a joy to read that I was smiling and laughing to myself at some of the shenanigans the next day. Katie Ashley has given us a fun, sexy, sassy, hilarious romantic comedy that will have you rolling on the ground laughing and fanning yourself all at the same time.

My Thoughts

From the very first chapter I was hooked. Poor Olivia had some unfortunate sexual encounters, but they were hilarious and laugh out loud funny to read, even while you felt an embarrassed sympathy for her. Her first attempt at sexy times ended with a severe latex allergy and an eggplant like member. The second attempt ended with a dead guy, so you can see why she is reluctant to try again.

Understandably she is looking for a way to improve her track record she meets Holden Caulfield Mains. They have a steamy one night stand and she sneaks out the next morning. Imagine her surprise when he is the special agent assisting with her small town’s first homicide in decades. He is dead set on continuing their fling while working this case. Things are heat up between the two as the twist and turns and strange pieces of this case come together.

This book had a little bit of everything in it. There was a guy with 2 penises, snake handlers, herbal Viagra, a murder, a nudist colony, a whole lot of mystery, love, dead people, a little suspense, an amazing rescue pit bull and also a totally swoony Hero. All of these things add up to make one crazy fun, laugh out loud ride that I highly encourage you to pick up. Do not read this in public though, as I found out the hard way, you do not want to try to explain what you are laughing about.

As he slid the condom down his impressive length, I couldn’t help licking my lips. He was like the Goldilocks of Cocks…not too skinny, not to wide, not too short, and not too long. He was just right.

And my vagina? That greedy little bitch had found the best piece in the candy store and definitely wanted another lick, suck, and swallow.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Is it one of those ‘if you told me you’d have to kill me’ kinda things?”

“Maybe. And I sure don’t want to kill you. Especially before I got to fuck you and make you scream my name.”

My mouth gaped open at him once again being so brazen. “Um, okay,” I replied.

“Don’t play the prude with me, Olivia. We both know that you came in here on a search mission for cock.”

Hooker by Brooke Blaine – Review

Whoever said singles were missing out by not finding true love and getting married before the age of thirty had never experienced the sheer pleasure of nightly romantic comedy viewings in their underwear while eating one of Licked’s famous Crazy Cat Lady sundaes. Because life just doesn’t get better than that.

At least, it doesn’t for Shayne Callahan. It didn’t take more than a handful of broken hearts after college to solidify that she was better at pairing up those around her than herself. As a matchmaker at the elite HLS—Hook, Line, & Sinker Matchmaking Company—in the City of Angels, she has a knack for finding the other halves of even the most eccentric clients:

Sugar daddy with a foot fetish? Gross, but no problem.
A severe case of nudophobia? Match made before lunch.

But even the most happily independent of women can find their best-laid plans screeching to a halt when they meet that guy. For Shayne, that guy comes in the form of boyishly handsome, suspender-lovin’, dimple-poppin’ Nate Ryan on a pantsless (we’ll get to that later) Metro ride.

Of course, relationships can never be easy. Before the destined lovers can ride off into the sunset, they must overcome a power-hungry and sexual-punning boss, a celebrity scandal and cover-up, and let’s not forget Shayne’s dreadful foot-in-mouth disease—with which there can never be a happily ever after.

Will fate throw Shayne a freakin’ bone? Or will she be destined to live out her life as sexy(ish), single(ish), and L.A.’s finest Hooker (upper)?

4 Stars

I really enjoyed Hooker. Shayne was a riot and Nate was pretty much prefect. This series is so fun. I wish I had a Licked After Dark in my neighborhood and a group of fun, crazy ladies like these in my life.

My Thoughts

This is one of those books you can not help but have a huge smile while reading it and after finishing. Shayne was a nerd, clumsy, awkward girl, but that made her easier to love and even more likable. Add her random word vomit and I loved this girl.

Add one hot, sexy man in suspenders and one mega action movie star and things start heating up. Please note that this is in no way a love triangle and does not have any cheating. Once I started this book I could not put it down and devoured it in one sitting. Highly recommend picking this one up if you are looking for a fun, sweet, sexy read with a quirky heroine, a touch of nerdiness, and a whole lot of funny.

Notable Quotes

There was only one thought on my mind as I watched him walk to his car and drive away. I was in trouble. Big, dirty, delicious trouble.

Oh, Dimples, who would’ve thought that such a sentimental sap was underneath those sexy suspenders? Should I start taking you to chick flicks and forcing you to read love stories?”
“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a good love story.

“Do you know what I love more than anything?”
“Stalking potential dates in the grocery aisle?”
“Gorgeous women who pretend they’re not interested.”
I rolled my eyes and pushed off the wall. “I’m not pretend–”
“You like the challenge,” he said stepping in front of me, his eyes flicking to my mouth. “And believe me, so do I.”

And then he kissed me, and it was butterflies, and fireworks and explosions, but most of all, it was the assurance that he knew who he was kissing, really knew, and wanted to anyway.

God help the woman I take home tonight.

Band manager James Brandon never expected to find the elusive satisfaction he’d been chasing, let alone stumble upon it in some sleezy Hollywood meat market. Yet the girl’s quiet pride spoke to him from across the bar, louder than a shout. Troubled, hungry and homeless, she’d placed her trust in him. But after losing the grip on his dark desires that one fateful night, James has spent the last four years atoning for letting her down.

This time I’ll finally crack him.

Rock band drummer Lita Regina has had enough of James’s guilt. She wants the explosive man she met that night in Hollywood. The man who held nothing back and took no prisoners—save Lita. And she’ll stop at nothing to revive him. Even if it means throwing herself into peril at every turn, just to get a reaction from her stoic manager. But when Lita takes her quest one step too far, James disappears from her life, thinking his absence will keep her safe.

Now it’s up to Lita to bring James back…and ignite an inferno of passion in the process.

Reader Advisory: ROUGH RHYTHM contains fantasies of nonconsensual sex, acted upon by consenting characters. Readers with sensitivity to portrayals of nonconsensual sex should be advised.

1001_2016_Tessa Bailey_300dpiExcerpt

“Oh, goddamn you.” Lita plucked the card from his fingers and hurled it back into the hallway with a muffled scream. “Four years leads to this, huh? You’re just going to dump me in this fucking…”—she waved her hands to encompass the hotel—“…rock star purgatory and bail? If you’re doing this to teach me a lesson, I will never forgive you, James.”

“I’m not.” He cleared the cobwebs from his throat. “That’s not what this is.”

Without looking at Lita, he knew she’d be chewing her bottom lip, leaving teeth marks that would take until nighttime to fade. “I guess we really meant a lot to you if it’s this easy. No notice. Just…peace out, suckers.”

James swallowed the urge to shake her. “I think you know this is the furthest thing from easy.”

“No. I don’t know anything,” she shouted, before several silent beats passed. “Except that you’re a coward. You can’t even look me in the eye.”

He surged forward, pushing her back against the doorjamb. Going to break. Too much. I shouldn’t have come up here. He’d made the mistake of looking down into green eyes swimming with moisture, calling her bluff. “Does the thought of you hurting yourself to get my attention make me a coward? Yes? So be it, Lita.” His fingernails dug into the flesh of his palms. “If something happened to you, I wouldn’t make it to the next sunrise.”

Lita’s body deflated, head falling back. “You can’t say something like that and leave,” she said, lips hardly moving. “It’s cruel.”

“I’m a cruel man.”

“No.” Lita moved into the elegant room, booted feet dragging. A miniature hurricane in a gilded cage. He’d chosen the room himself, another sign of his madness, his need to control her surroundings. Have knowledge of everything she touched. His neck grew hot when she turned, sliding a gaze down his front.

Turning and leaving was imperative at that moment, but he couldn’t resist hearing what she would say next. Delaying the good-bye.

“Remember what you called me the first night we met?” She sat down on the edge of the bed. “Before you leave, call me that one more time.”

4 StarsLita and James were fascinating in the first books, so when I found out they were going to get their own novella I was ecstatic. I was not disappointed. These two were fantastic.

My Thoughts

James and Lita have been going round and round since the day they met. He cares for her deeply but holds her at an arms distance. She is a firecracker that tries everything to get him to crack and pull her closer. The push/pull we saw in Crashed Out was more than enough to draw me to this novella, add a touch of darkness and Tessa Bailey and I was all over it.

James is constantly trying to protect Lita from everyone and everything including himself. He has a darkness inside him (which really just means he likes it rough) and was terrified to hurt Lita and she would leave him. He was justified in this because of his past, but he thought he was some big bad monster through most of the book, and that was the furthest thing from the truth. He saw Lita as fragile and delicate and it was so frustrating for Lita and even more for the reader.

Lita was a wild, crazy, fun, strong, amazing female character. I loved reading her. She did all kinds of insane, fun things to get James’ attention, to get him to see her. They both wanted the other so bad they went to extremes to (on his part) push and (on her part) pull at each other. James finally has enough and quits the band manager position leaving Lita alone. She takes a stand and tracks him down to force him to face her and his feelings. These were some of my favorite parts of the book. The fighting and banter between these two was off the charts sexy.

Overall this book had a medium sized helping of drama, a heavy dose of steaminess, awesome characters, and a beautifully heartbreaking love story with a fantastic ending. I loved these two. This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more. Lita was a smart, strong, bad-ass woman and James was her protector, even when he was the one hurting her. I cannot wait to read this again to experience their chemistry and beautiful story over and over again.

The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

When Jamie Rutherford takes a temporary assignment as lieutenant of Boston Fire’s Engine 59, she doesn’t anticipate any problems. She’s been in the fire service for a long time and, even though she’s fairly new to Boston, she knows how to make any firehouse her home. What she’s not prepared for is her reaction to firefighter Scott Kincaid.

Scott is looking for a wife. It’s been a fun ride as a single guy, but he’s tired of being the third wheel, and nearly losing his brother-in-law finally made him realize just how much he wants a family of his own. When the new guy at the firehouse turns out to be a capable, confident and very attractive woman, his plan is completely derailed.

Hooking up with a fellow firefighter has never been part of Jamie’s plan, but she’s tempted by Scott—even though getting involved with him could tarnish the reputation she’s worked so hard for. And Scott can’t stop thinking about Jamie, despite the fact that she’s his superior and not sticking around. Chemistry can crush the best-laid plans, though, and while Jamie and Scott might not be each other’s future…there’s no resisting the right now.

4 Stars

This book was a fun, sexy, sweet 4 star read. I loved all the different relationships in this book so much. It was nice to be able to get into the firefighting world a little more. I also really liked that Jaime was the superior and they way that they handled their relationship in a mature and drama free way. This book is my favorite so far in the series.

My Thoughts

We get to learn more about Scott in this book. From the other books in the series we have learned that he is a little bit of a playboy, a major hot head and mouthwatering hot. We also learned that he is tired of dating all the wrong women and is ready to settle down a little and find what the guys call his “TV wife”, you know the “Wife in the aprons and pearls, making dinner while helping the kids do their homework. Meeting him at the door with his slippers and all that.” I really liked Scott he was a good guy, a great friend and an amazing brother not only to his family but his Firefighter family.

Jaime Rutherford is the new temporary lieutenant of Engine 59, and a woman. I was originally worried that her being a woman was going to be a more sexist issue in the book, but was incredibly happy that all the guys she worked with respected her and treated her no different. It was refreshing to see in a book. I loved Jaime. She was a kickass woman, but was still respected and had a killer sense of humor. She was able to balance her work and life with an enviable ease.

When these two first met at the firehouse sparks flew off the page. From that first meeting the chemistry was off the charts and as much as they tried to ignore the attraction it just seemed to keep growing. So they do what any rational mature grownups would do… Not fight it any longer. I really enjoyed their relationship and even more when the whole family found out. I was a lot mad and disappointed in Scott for pushing Jamie away in the worst (non-cheating) way possible, but communication issues were my only real hangup with this story. I loved every aspect of it. My favorite parts were when they were hanging out around the fire house or going on calls. You really got to feel like you were a part of the crew and that was amazing. I highly recommend picking up this fun, sexy and smart romance.

There’s no home run if you skip first base.”
He frowned. “I…don’t know what that means.”
“That’s what I get for trying to use a sports analogy because I’m not sure either. It’s supposed to mean you haven’t kissed me since that night in your bar’s storage room, and I like a little romance before a guy gets his hands down my pants.”

Holy shit. The new guy wasn’t a guy.

It doesn’t have to be complicated.

He wasn’t sure what he was trying to prove to himself by acting casual, because on the inside he was jumping up and down like a black Lab whose human had finally come home.
