Loveswept

New York City’s hottest bachelors are stirring up trouble in this fun, flirty Oxford Novel, as a love triangle forces a feisty beauty to choose between winning back Mr. Right or giving in to Mr. Wrong.

Taylor Carr has it all—a sleek job in advertising, a stunning Manhattan apartment, and the perfect man to share it with: Bradley Calloway. Even after Bradley dumps her for a co-worker on move-in day, Taylor isn’t worried. She’ll get her man eventually. In the meantime, she needs a new roommate. Enter Nick Ballantine, career bartender, freelance writer—and longtime pain in Taylor’s ass. Sexy in a permanent five-o’clock-shadow kind of way, Nick knows how to push Taylor’s buttons, as if he could see right through to the real her.

Nick’s always trying to fix people, and nobody could use a good fixing more than Taylor. Sure, she’s gorgeous, with mesmerizing silver eyes, but it’s her vulnerability that kills him. Now that they’re shacking up together, the chemistry is out of control. Soon they’re putting every part of their two-bedroom apartment to good use. Then Taylor’s ex comes crawling back to her, and Nick figures she’ll jump at the chance to go back to her old life—unless he fights for the best thing that ever happened to him.

I loved this book!!! It was so much fun to see the other part of the Oxford office and get some cameos by some of my favorite Oxford boys. I loved getting more of Nick after meeting him in Someone Like You I was eager for his story and the love/hate bickering dynamic he had with Taylor was perfection. These two were combustible in every way, but were big teddy bears underneath. It was such a fun book to read and I couldn’t have asked for more. As I say with every new Lauren Layne this is my new favorite and I highly recommend.

4.5-Stars

Wow. I knew Lincoln’s story was going to be special, but this was way more than I expected. It is safe to say that Lincoln is my new favorite Stiletto/Oxford man. There is so much more to the charismatic ladies man that we have grown to love over the course of this series and it really was special to peel back all of those layers and see the “real” Lincoln.

My Thoughts

From the other books in this series we have met the infamous ladies man Lincoln Mathis, but what you see is not always what you get. I had a feeling this book was going to pull out all of the stops and bring all of the feels, and I was not disappointed. The man behind the reputation is incredible, his story is moving, and his journey is both heartbreaking and endearing all at the same time.

Daisy is Emma’s twin sister, but is so wholly and completely different from Emma that if they didn’t look-alike you would never know. Neither of them are what they show the world, so it is no surprise that they become fast friends. Lincoln lets her see behind the veil so to speak and both of their worlds change from that moment on.

I loved every second of this book. I forced myself to slow down several times so that I could savor the story a little more and have it last just a little longer. After 2 readings I still think this is my favorite Lauren Layne book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it if you like strong characters that grab you from page 1 and don’t let go until long after you have finished the story.

A review copy was provided by Netgalley for an honest review.

Notable Quotes

“I don’t. They come to me. I’m like the stamen.”
Emma stared at him with her wide, slightly accusatory brown eyes. “The what?”
“The stamen. The pollen-producing part of a flower, Sinclair. Don’t you watch the Discovery Channel? Animal Planet? I just saw a very compelling documentary on bees. See, when the bees land on a flower, their little feet pick up pollen from the stamen…”
“Mathis. Are you talking to my fiancé about semen?”
Alex Cassidy asked, coming up beside Emma and setting a possessive hand on her waist.

“You must be Lincoln Mathis, The Manwhore of Whom I Should Beware?”
“Which would make you Daisy Sinclair, Delicate Flower to Whom I’m Not to Speak.”

I happen to like our story… Especially now that it’s taken a turn for the naked.

I have nothing to give back, Daisy. Oh, I’d give you pleasure. We’d give each other that. But I’d take absolutely everything – I’d fucking consume you. You’d want something in return, and I’d have nothing. I’m hollow inside, and you deserve so much more.

To Love and Cherish by Lauren Layne – Review

reviewTo Love and Cherish

28552677Synopsis

Alexis Morgan has spent the past six years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.

Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable…until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis that the fling of a lifetime could just maybe turn into forever…

My Thoughts

I was beyond excited to start this book. I have read all of the Belles books and have been intrigued by Alexis from the start. It was so much fun to see what made the cool, calm, collected woman tick and even more fun to see her lose control and let loose a little. And dreamy Logan… the accent, the gentleman, the way he treats Alexis, everything about Logan was perfect.

I picked this book up yesterday afternoon and did not put it down until I was finished last night. I was so engrossed in their story I was shocked to see I had come to the end. I could read about Logan and Alexis, and the rest of the Belles’ couples all day, so I am sad to see this series end. It definitely ended on a high note, saving the best for last. Highly recommend this series, Lauren Layne books, and this book in particular.

Notable Quotes

“I love when he get British,” Josh whispered. He raised his voice back to normal volume. “Hey. Say bloody wanker.”
“I myself prefer bloody hell,” Seth said. “It’s very Bond.”She only knew that going there with Logan, even in her thoughts, meant complicating things. Complicating things meant risk. And she couldn’t risk losing Logan. She wouldn’t.

Logan. I don’t understand you like this. I don’t get what you want from me.”
He stared into her eyes. “Yes. You do.

“You need to trust this man,” Roxie said. “I know it’s not your thing, I know you like to be in control, but I think it’s time you give up a little control so that you can get something even better in return.”

Tonic by Staci Hart – Review

Tonic

tonic-ebook-coverSynopsis

Joel Anderson doesn’t take anything seriously.

Not his relationships, which have been few and far between since his brutal divorce. Not the drama of working in a tattoo parlor, which seems to be around every corner. When things get him down, he smiles and cracks a joke. But he’s not the kind of man you cross, or you’ll find yourself at the wrong end of his fists.Annika Belousov takes everything seriously.

Like her job as a reality television producer, given that she typically has something to prove. Or her love life, which is defined by a series of requirements — affluent, ambitious, accomplished, to name a few. Definitely her family, who worked their whole lives to afford her every opportunity, a sacrifice she doesn’t take lightly. When she’s tapped to produce a reality show at Joel’s shop, she doesn’t think twice, just goes in for the kill, as if there were any other way.

The second Annika walks into Joel’s shop, he makes it his mission to crack her open, but she’s not having it. He’s all wrong — too crass, too hairy, too un-serious. But it doesn’t take her long to find out there’s more to him than smirks and tattoos. And what she finds could put her career and his heart on the line.

Not that Joel cares. Because for the first time in a long time, he’s found his tonic.

My Thoughts

I have been trying to write this review for 2 days. 2 days of not finding the right words for this amazing book. I was drawn to Joel from the start the tall, bearded, tattooed man who doesn’t take life too seriously. And Annika, well she was a bit frosty to start, but you could instantly tell there was some serious fire buried under all of that. The back and forth and the chemistry between these two was off the charts and made this a seriously entertaining read.

The push and pull and insta love of Joel and Annika was interesting to see. She mentioned several times that he could see through her mask, and through her, but the connection read as much deeper and instant that it sounds. You could cut the tension with a knife, but when she finally gave in to Joel it was when the story really hooked me. These two were off the charts steamy.

The television show premise had potential for some serious drama to happen, but I love the way it was handled. There was of course some drama and some baggage, but it was handled with care and not just drama for drama’s sake. I recommend this book for those that like their men a little rugged and don’t take life seriously. and anyone that has a little ice protecting their hearts. Be prepared for Joel to thaw it all. And I must mention the sexy, tattooed, bearded man playing with a kitten will make your ovaries explode it they hadn’t already.

Notable Quotes

That guy. That hairy fucking guy. That hairy fucking guy with those stupid fucking eyes that looked at me like he could see me naked.

She looked like a doll, a cold, beautiful doll that belonged on a shelf where no man should touch her.

Everything about him felt good. The way he looked at me. The way he touched me. The words that passed his lips and hit me in all the right places.

Truth be told, I saw a bit of myself in him, which wasn’t necessarily a good thing. But he was somehow a kindred spirit, and I recognized that. And that recognition was mystifying and terrifying and almost unfathomable, mostly because it had occurred so naturally.

Sparking The Fire by Kate Meader – Review

Sparking the Fire

cover-finalSynopsis

Actor Molly Cade, America’s fallen sweetheart, finally has her shot at a Hollywood comeback with a dramatic new role as a tough-as-nails firefighter that promises to propel her back to the big time and restore her self-respect.

Wyatt Fox, resident daredevil at Engine Co. 6, needs a low-key job to keep him busy while he recovers from his latest rescue stunt. Consulting on a local movie shoot should add just enough spark to his day. Especially when in struts Molly Cade: the woman who worked his heart over good, and then left him in the Windy City dust.

Their story is straight out of a script: irrepressible, spunky heroine meets taciturn, smoldering hero. But these two refuse to be typecast, and when the embers of an old love are stoked, someone is bound to get burned…

Review

4.5-Stars

I have been intrigued by Wyatt Fox since I read Rekindle the Flame in an anthology before Flirting With Fire came out. He is the strong silent type, but also fiercely protective of his family and sticks to the background. I was not disappointed. Wyatt was so much more than I imagined and I loved every second of his story.

My Thoughts

I loved the way this book started. We got to see a side of Wyatt we haven’t seen before and it was refreshing. I loved both Wyatt and Molly in this story so much. Molly is a firecracker, but still reeling from public scandal, and Wyatt is dealing with a whole host of guilt and overprotectiveness. When these two collide the sexual tension is off the charts. You can feel the draw they have on each other and I loved every second.

These two fit in every way you could imagine. She makes him laugh and smile more, he grounds her and protects her, even when she doesn’t want it. I loved they way they brought each other out of their self-imposed shells and how the Dempsey’s welcome everyone into the fold. It was so fun getting to catch up with the other couple’s throughout this story. I highly recommend this series, but in particular this book. It was so much fun to read, had so much heart, and was off the charts steamy. I am sad to see it go, but happy I can revisit the Dempsey’s anytime I want.

Notable Quotes

He’d thought he could control himself around Molly, yet every second in her presence loosened the granite hold on his emotions one more slippery, dangerous inch.

She poked him in the chest. “Drunk, sober, any state, I would be doin’ you tonight, Mister. Lucky. That’s what you are. A total BILF.”
“BILF?”
“Beard I’d like to fuck.”

Their lives did not mesh. She was Hollywood designer duds. He was Chicago Dumpster diving. And he wanted her more than his next breath. But since when in hell had he ever gotten anything he wanted?

Nothing had ever felt this good. No one had ever felt this good. It had always been her.

Review

4.5-Stars

This book was so adorable, so sweet, so beautiful I wanted to start it over again as soon as I finished. I love that this book didn’t have to have some big drama or angst moment in order to work. It made me love Landon and Cami even more for being able to be there for each other and talk through any issues.

My Thoughts

Cami has been in love with her best friend’s older brother Landon for years. Landon had a crush on her nearly every bit as long… and he kept it under wraps that entire time. They each went their separate directions, Cami getting married and divorced and Landon joining the Air Force. Now they are both older, a little wiser and unexpectedly thrown together over and over. There were no outside forces working against them. This book wasn’t angsty, but it did bring the feels a couple times.

Now that there are no obstacles in their way they are both free to express their feelings toward each other. There is no doubt that Landon is an alpha male, but I love the way that Kristen Proby portrays her alpha males. None of the arrogance, aggressiveness, can’t admit feelings, using only for sex and so many other “Alpha” traits we see in other books. Landon had none of these. He was sweet, kind, thoughtful, respectful, loyal, willing to give Cami anything she wanted or needed, wanting to spend time just being with her and just being a considerate amazing guy. I mean he built and organized her pantry, how amazing is that?

Overall I loved this story. It was so fun, so swoony, so sweet and so perfect that I found myself with a huge grin on my face every time I put this book down. I highly suggest this book if you want something that is different and has a couple that is truly perfect for each other. It has very little angst and an unbelievably high swoon factor and you will not regret checking this one out.

Notable Quotes

When we have sex, it won’t be because either of us has to. It’ll be because we’re both ready and can’t keep our damn hands off of each other. Making love to you will never be a chore.

I get lost in you.
Mm. But it’s the kind of lost that’s like being found.

It’s funny how you can know someone for so long, and then one day you realize that you never really knew them at all. Our friendship has always been important to me, Cami, but it’s only been in the past few months that I’ve truly grown to know you. Inside and out. What makes you tick. What makes you laugh and what scares you and that you’re bad at buying things for your kitchen. Loving you has always come as easy as breathing for me, and falling in love with you is no different. I admire you. Your strength of character. Your humor. Your intelligence. You are impressive and not a little scary, Cami.

This moment is thirteen years in the making, and I couldn’t have pictured it any better than this.

Remember When by R.C. Boldt – Review

Remember When

Remember WhenSynopsis

Over a decade ago, fourth grade teacher Tate Donnelly was attending college with the love of her life by her side. She had been certain, even then, that it was the forever kind of love. But she was proven wrong when he left her all alone to pick up the pieces of her life—and heart—when her entire world imploded.

Former Navy SEAL Miller Vaughn once had the love of a girl he thought would be his, and be by his side forever. Unfortunately, that only lasted until after he joined the Navy. Then she vanished, never to be heard from again. Throwing himself into his training, he vowed to become the best, toughest SEAL he could be, and never let a girl get the best of him again.

Years later, a man who resembles a boy she once knew reappears in her life. A boy she had loved with her whole being. A boy who had eviscerated her heart.

Though much time has passed, Tate and Miller still feel that same “pull” they did years ago. When truths about the past are revealed, will they both be able to move on from their painful past … or are they destined for heartbreak again?

Can they remember when their love was the most important thing in their world?

Review

4.5-Stars

I love each book in this series more than the last and look forward to every new story, and this one was no exception. It was a beautiful, heartbreaking, amazing story I didn’t know I needed but was very happy to have found. I could not put it down. With every word and every page I fell harder for Tate and Miller and this lovable band of goofball friends.

My Thoughts

When we met Tate and Miller in the other books you could tell there was a story there, but both were tight lipped about it. From their interactions you could tell it was big and it ended badly. All of these things together made me super excited for this book to see how it all unfolded and get into these character’s hearts and heads.

I have loved Tate from her first appearance in this series, and in finally getting to read her story made me love her and this group even more. Miller and Tate had a rocky road and a beautiful love with a tragic and heart breaking end. Neither quite knew how to move on or if they wanted to. I am usually not a fan of sad, heartbreaking tales, but this one was so well done and so beautiful that I could not put it down. I always want more of this crew and am so excited for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book and all of RC Boldt’s books.
