Taking The Lead by Cecilia Tan – REVIEW

Taking The Lead

Everyone knows Ricki Hamilton as the icy heiress living in a billion-dollar mansion, high up in the Hollywood Hills. But few realize that behind the gilded gates, Ricki is the mistress of LA’s most exclusive private club. A place where no fantasy is forbidden and no one goes unsatisfied-except for Ricki. If she had her way, she’d leave the business behind . . . until she meets the one man with the power to change her mind.

The hottest rock star in the world, Axel Hawke, has the requisite sexy look and bad-boy reputation. Yet even his biggest fans have no clue just how decadently dangerous he can be. From the moment he meets Ricki, he knows there is no other woman who will satisfy him. He can feel the heat hiding beneath her cool demeanor and he’s determined to stoke her flame.

Together Ricki and Axel indulge their every desire. The deeper they go, the more she craves. Submitting to Axel opens her eyes, and for the first time Ricki knows exactly what she wants. All she has to do is take it . . .

3.5 Stars

One “Ice Queen” socialite and one “Bad Boy” rocker make this a fun, steamy and sexy read. I cannot wait for Mal’s book.

My Thoughts

Ricki Hamilton is secretly in charge of a sex club that caters the Hollywood’s elite. Axle Hawke is the bad boy front man of one of the hottest new rock bands. These two seem to be polar opposites, but each has something the other needs; they just don’t know it yet.

When they first meet it is an instant attraction, and just gets steamier from there. I really liked each of these characters overall, but the first sex scenes were lacking something for me. Maybe it was because it went from zero to one hundred in less than 5 seconds, or if it was the way she immediately submitted to him. The sex was hot and the dom thing was hot, but there was just something that I couldn’t connect to with their relationship. It was insta-love and over the top lust all the way. It was still a fun story that got more emotional and engaging as the book went on. I enjoyed the later parts of the book where they talk to each other about their relationship instead of bailing or running away at every opportunity.

Overall I liked the story, but it was only a 3.5 for me. I couldn’t click with these characters and for some reason Axle’s dom made it harder for me to connect to the story. I will say that I am looking forward to the next book, with the hot British band mate Mal. From the little snippet in the back I have a feeling he is gonna be very sexy.
