Falling Under (Chrome and Ink 2) by Lauren Dane
Duke Bradshaw, co-owner of the custom motorcycle shop Twisted Steel, is great with his hands and not afraid to get dirty . . . especially in his fantasies about his redheaded neighbor Carmella Rossi.
Carmella has been secretly lusting after her hot, tattooed neighbor for the last three years. His gravelly voice combined with the throaty purr of his custom bike never fails to send thrills down her spine. When Duke asks her to join him at the shop, she can’t say no. Soon their days together spill over into nights that bring her pleasure beyond anything she imagined. But Carmella grew up with bikers, and knows how bad a bad boy can be. Can she put herself at risk for someone who has heart-breaker written all over him?
3.5 stars. I liked the idea of the story than the actual story.
In this sequel to Opening Up we get to know co-owner of Twisted Steel Duke Bradshaw a little better. I really enjoyed seeing this laid back, tatted up bad boy be so gentle, protective, and nurturing. He has been keeping an eye on his neighbor (not in the creepy way) for a while, so when she lands on hard times he is there with the perfect opportunity to help her out. Carmella Rossi is a woman used to taking care of everything herself. She has not been dealt the best cards in life and is always working to overcome everything while still trying to help the people who are in her life. When she catches Duke’s eye she gets more than she bargained for in the one person that wants to take care of her instead of being taken care of.
I liked this story, but overall it was a little slow and I got frustrated along with Duke waiting for Carm to get over her issues and accept Duke. All the I shouldn’t/can’t angst is one of those things that bother me most in a book, and unfortunately even though the writing was very good, the story and I just didn’t click.
A review copy was provided by Netgalley for an honest review.
“She seemed to float into my life, and once she touched down, the roots grew very deep very fast. I wasn’t expecting love. Knocked me on my ass.”
“ He made her lose her head. Did something to the filters she’d kept in place so long to protect herself. Devastated every single defense until all that was left was the heart of her, exposed to him.”
